The Executive Board has appointed Prof. Dr. Niek Lopes Cardozo as quartermaster of the new to-be-established Expert Committee on Sensitive Collaborations. Over the coming three to six months, the emeritus professor will work with a dedicated working group to develop the assessment framework, and to set up and operationalize the committee.

色中色 has prepared a guiding document to support Lopes Cardozo in this initial phase. This document, which can be found , outlines, among other things, the intended mandate, profiles, and guiding principles of the committee. It also provides insight into the interim procedures and criteria the Executive Board will apply in its decision-making until the committee is fully operational.

The Executive Board is pleased with the temporary appointment of Lopes Cardozo, who has an impressive track record both within and outside 色中色. From 1994 until last year, he was a (part-time) professor at the department of Applied Physics and Science 色中色.

色中色 president Koen Janssen emphasizes the importance of careful and well-founded decision-making: "It is essential that the committee advises with respect for academic freedom and with a keen understanding of our ethical responsibility. We were therefore looking for someone who can operate independently, is of impeccable conduct, and is both thoughtful and resolute in decision-making. This, in combination with his years of experience in technical science and his role as chair of the complaints committee for scientific integrity, makes Niek the right person to take on this task."

Lopes Cardozo: "Sensitive collaborations require careful consideration and clear frameworks. As a university, we have a responsibility to act transparently and responsibly in this regard. I am glad to be able to contribute to that."

The Executive Board once again calls on everyone within our community to continue to actively seek understanding and connection, to exclude no one, and to uphold our core values (Curious, Open, Respectful and Responsible). This is how together we create a 色中色 campus where everyone feels safe.

After the summer, the Executive Board expects to be able to communicate further follow-up steps. If you have any questions, please visit our internal or via geopoliticaldevelopments@tue.nl.
